But they’re only effective if their installation is correct. So what should your installer be doing to get your project completed quickly while staying within budget? Here are five tips from Shutterboys.com about installing your next California Shutter project.
Tip #1: Use quality materials and install them properly
Your window frames must be structurally sound. If they aren’t, then the entire job will fail.
The first step is to inspect every frame thoroughly. Check that each side is flat, square, level, and true. If it isn’t, call us immediately because this could mean that your home is being compromised. Once you know everything is fine, use framing tools like level gauges and plumb bobs to ensure each corner and edge is perpendicular to each other and to the wall.
After you confirm everything looks good, use chalk lines to mark out the exact outline of your window frames. Then cut along those guidelines using a jigsaw or circular saw. Make sure to wear safety gear, especially goggles and gloves.
Next, remove the old siding and trim around your windows and doorways. Be careful to protect your hands, eyes, and face. Remove nails, staples, screws, and debris from inside the house.
Finally, apply a primer coat and paint your exterior surfaces white, or whatever color you prefer. Once dry, prime again and spray the rest of your surface with a protective coating. Your window frames should be ready for the finishing touch. Now it’s time to install your shutters. Tip #2: Install your shutters correctly
When installing shutters, you can either go traditional, meaning you hang the hardware from outside the frame, or you can go internal. For both methods, you’ll need to determine which direction you’d like the louvers (the slats) facing.
