This week I will be talking about why one should use wooden shutters versus vinyl windows. Both options offer benefits depending upon climate location. But which would be better suited to my home located near San Francisco and Sonoma County wine country?
I am a huge fan of both products because each solution offers different perks but also has issues associated with them. Each type of window presents unique problems. As well as some of these problems being solved by other solutions. Here is the breakdown:
Wooden Shutters: Wood California Shutters provide many benefits like energy efficiency, high quality materials, durability, affordability and most importantly natural beauty. However they come with a few drawbacks. If installed incorrectly they could cause harm to children and pets. They can also easily warp in extreme heat during dry spells or freezing temperatures. Plus their lifespan is only around 15 years depending upon maintenance schedule. On top of this all, they must be maintained every four months. Not exactly ideal for busy people who live life in fast forward. So which is better? Well wood is beautiful but it requires upkeep.
