So many options and products came onto market to help homeowners achieve great looks without breaking down budgets. For instance, in the past few months we have seen innovations like ‘smart shutters” and custom colors come across the board. Also, this season saw the arrival of vinyl windows which offer both energy efficiency AND aesthetics. If you read the article linked above, I shared details around the most popular window styles in use today. But, I wanted to dive deeper into the specifics of each style.
Here’s the short story; Vinyl Windows are still considered a niche product and they haven’t yet taken hold as mainstream. However; the trend isn’t going away anytime soon. Why? Because they combine several attractive design traits including high insulation properties along with being affordable. Plus, vinyl is a durable material and a long life span. The downside of vinyl is typically higher upfront cost but once installed can save significant utility costs in years 2 through 5 depending upon the model chosen.

So I am writing this post because I believe that most people still dont understand the value, benefits and cost savings that motorized California shutters bring to home owners. When it comes down to it, they are essentially the same thing except that motors allow them to operate without manual effort. But I’m going to show you why that makes it worth every penny.
There are 2 types of exterior shutters available. They are the traditional ones made of solid material like wood and aluminum which provide privacy while allowing light through. Then there are sliding door type which come in either wooden or glass frames. While these work great for doors, they don’t offer much protection against heat loss during hot seasons. And finally there are roller shades which cover both sides of the windows and roll back whenever opened. These can protect your home from sun damage, reduce air leaks and help keep energy bills lower in summer months. If your home does have these options then motorization is something I strongly recommend since it would save you hours each week just opening and closing blinds manually.
When choosing the perfect style of shade for your house, there are several factors to take into consideration. One factor of course is price, but another is ease of use and maintenance. Some styles are easier than others to control remotely, which could mean less headaches. Others might not be compatible with certain systems like security alarms. Finally, consider how long it takes you to clean your curtains once they’re dirty or stained.
Motorized shutters should be treated with care. They are heavy items with sharp edges and metal parts.
Wood California Shutters vs. Vinyl California Shutters?
In 2020, most home improvement contractors will be offering both types of shutters at some point during the project. Both offer many benefits to homeowners. However, they each come with tradeoffs that influence which type should win out in certain situations.
Wood Shutters provide privacy while letting light through. They work really well around windows to keep out harsh sunbeams but allow enough natural light to enter. These shades are typically thicker than vinyl shutters, providing extra protection against heat when installed properly. If you live near beachfront properties, wood shutters are great because they block saltwater spray damage better than other options. And, like any material, they can take scratches easily, so protect them carefully if you use them outdoors. You can hang wood shutters anywhere along the wall without requiring special tools, although professional installers generally recommend hanging them vertically, to avoid sagging or warping. Because they’re made entirely of wooden slats instead of plastic films, wood shutters usually won’t rot or fade.
Vinyl Shutters come in either single panels or multi-panel designs, depending on the size of the window they cover. They often come painted black, though they can sometimes have white interiors, and are designed specifically to block sunlight while allowing plenty of ventilation. Vinyl panels aren’t nearly as thick as wooden ones; however, they can withstand higher wind speeds than wood, making them ideal for hurricane zones and coastal areas. Most people prefer this type of shade simply due to aesthetics—they tend to blend naturally into any décor, unlike wood shutters and blinds, which often stand out visually. They can be hung anywhere on the outside of your home and often cost less per unit than wood shutters in smaller sizes, especially since most companies only charge for labor costs rather than materials. For example, installing four 8×12 panel units could cost roughly $200 or about half the price of eight 8×16 units. Some manufacturers offer optional solar screening systems that help minimize energy bills by blocking excess heat buildup from reaching your attic space.
If your property faces south, then wood shutters might cause problems if they get wet, so consider adding some sort of rain sensor system to ensure these shades stay dry.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CALIFORNIA SHUTTERS?
Before installing California Shuttors, you must first understand some basic things regarding them:
