Wood shutters provide many benefits to homeowners in terms of both energy efficiency and aesthetic value. They often come standard with wooden cladding along the bottom edge. Many manufacturers offer vinyl options as well. For most homes this adds little to no cost since they install the same basic design with one material versus another but they still work great. But for some homes the additional cost does become worth it especially because they use a higher quality wood veneer. And then sometimes the savings isn’t seen until after 5 years and/or even 10+ years which makes them seem like an investment instead of just a cost. So the question becomes should I go with wood or vinyl? Well first consider whether you’re really considering either. Most people go with vinyl simply because they’ve heard someone else say they prefer it, while others will go wwood without knowing why they actually chose one over the other. If you ask me, neither are bad choices per se but only depending on what’s really going on inside your home…
Vinyl siding costs roughly $5-$18 per square foot installed and typically lasts up to 20+ plus years. Vinyl offers excellent looks along with long lasting durability. However, when installing vinyl there are several factors which must be taken care of correctly. A knowledgeable installer who knows his business well should ensure that things get taken care of properly during the initial stages of installation.
