I was introduced to the beauty of Cali shutters through my mother and her love of decorating. She knew nothing about the subject but she saw something in me that loved the idea of being able to close the blinds whenever she chose without worrying someone would peek in. From then on every summer vacation we went to visit family members, they always had some sort of window coverings installed. They weren’t fancy but it made me feel like I wasn’t exposed to the rest of society while still feeling safe inside because no matter which way I closed the curtains, nobody could see anything. As I grew older my interest turned towards finding a solution for myself. My first real experience with California style windows came during college when my friend moved across country from Ohio to Colorado Springs. He brought his entire house with him including the doors and windows. All the doors opened outward allowing light to enter and the windows allowed natural breezes to move freely around the house. At the time we lived in apartments, my friends’ solution seemed crazy to us. We were stuck inside most days and only felt comfortable after he put those huge sliding glass doors on the walls. Even though I understood why he liked California style windows, I hated having to live without them until I got married. When my husband’s construction job took us back east to Philadelphia, I became determined to find the perfect fit for our house. Wood California Shutters vs. Vinyl California Shutters?
Wood has always enjoyed a reputation among homeowners seeking quality shutters for durability, strength, energy efficiency, aesthetics, value, comfort, ease of use, resistance against environmental factors, protection from insects, weather stains and fading, along with many other benefits.
In recent years however, vinyl products (or PVC as they’re often referred to), which were once considered inferior to wood, have made significant strides forward. Also, when a person buys a screen protector, he/she usually needs to apply pressure and force to stick the case onto the screen. When applying the protector to the screen, it can often cause scratches.
