1). California Window Product Trends: A recent study conducted by Shutter Brands revealed that there was little growth in terms of window replacement market share during 2016. While many homeowners still prefer vinyl replacement windows over wooden counterparts, most seem to favor energy efficiency over aesthetics. As far as sales numbers go, vinyl had less than half of wooden replacement sales volume. So although the trend towards replacing traditional windows continues, wood remains king.
2). California Window Installation Trend: Most residential installations continue to move away from single hung units moving toward dual track systems. Wood sash tracks have dominated since the 1990’s due to the ease of installing. Vinyl options remain popular due to lower initial cost and better noise reduction qualities. But both types of blinds are used for various applications. Traditional Venetian Blinds (aka roller shades) dominate in high end luxury markets while vertical slat blinds become preferred in mid priced homes. For DIY enthusiasts, there aren’t really “one size fits all” solutions. People often select one type of hardware because another isn’t readily available and then modify.

Wood shutters come down to personal preference. Some homeowners prefer wood because they like the feel better than vinyl, while some people find them easier to clean or just prefer the natural beauty of wood versus the plastic appearance of vinyl. If there is no particular reason why you would prefer either type then go with wood. They both provide protection against heat loss and the sun’s rays which keeps your home cooler and less expensive to operate during the summer months.
