Kornbluh points out that the California market has already gone past the trend of “cleaner” colors — especially since 2014, when white became the hot new neutral. He says that while gray and chocolate brown continue to see growth in popularity, other hues are making moves that make sense aesthetically. “Right now,” he said, “you’ll find dark blues increasing quite a bit. And red isn’t far behind.” As the seasons shift, light is becoming increasingly important in most building styles, causing traditional, richly colored patterns like burnt orange, plum purple and rust, to take a backseat. These tones are being replaced by softer ones, such as soft grays, cool pinks, purples and greens, according to Hanks.
He added that another emerging pattern is changing consumer taste towards more minimalistic design and less clutter. This week, I get my hands dirty installing some premium shutters and taking photos along the way. We installed these shutters using custom hardware which will come shipped to us in crates and will cost $2000 USD/per location(1). At this point, the project requires two people; myself ($1000), plus another person who helps hold the rails ($500). Of course, they could be doing other things but they are helping move materials around and lifting parts for me. If you had done everything yourself, and did not use specialty equipment like cranes or hoists you would pay approximatly $2k per window. For reference, each door costs $1050+ and you would typically install 10 windows for every door. So, each window needs 3 people to lift them, 2 people to put them together and 4 people holding up each side while the screws are being hammered down into holes and drilling. A full site job probably runs anywhere from $30k-$40K including material delivery, crane rental, extra labor, etc.. I am providing a walkthrough of this type of work so that you see exactly what a typical job looks like.
