We recommend replacing both motors at once to ensure everything is functioning properly again. If multiple units are affected, consider buying extra parts to replace each unit independently rather than shipping back all the damaged ones.
Insufficient protection. Many people use their shutters simply to block sunlight, without taking advantage of other benefits. For instance, blinds reduce heat retention and glare from harsh light sources such as halogen lights, offering greater comfort. They’re also incredibly effective at blocking harmful UV rays, helping prevent sunburns and skin cancer risks. When selecting shades for your shutters, pay attention to the filter system used. A shade rated “T5” blocks 70 percent of UVA and 30% UVB, providing excellent eye health and photoprotection. Shades rated higher limit the amount of visible light allowed through to protect against overexposure from damaging ultraviolet radiation, called exposure index. Keep in mind that darker colors absorb less visible light than lighter hues, meaning these shades retain more heat inside. Also bear in mind that tinting films aren’t certified safe for window treatments by building codes, however federal laws prohibit states from regulating shading products sold nationwide.
Broken hardware. Sometimes, old and worn components fail after years of service. Fortunately, many manufacturers offer replacement options. Take note that the new component won’t match exactly, especially if it was made specifically for your model.

I’m excited to see what the world will be like in five years, especially given some of the things I’m working on today in my industry. We’re going to face many changes in society, technology advancement, health, education, business models, climate shifts, geopolitics, and consumer needs—all coming together to define who we are and help us navigate through this next chapter of life.

Wood shuttering was invented in Europe during medieval times. It consisted primarily of solid wooden panels used to cover windows; however, some window systems used multiple layers of different materials including paper, glass, lead, aluminum foil, kraft paper, fabric, cardboard, plastic film, vinyl sheeting, fiberglass material, metal mesh, and aluminum siding. Today the term ‘wood blinds” describes wooden shutters which consist of individual boards made of plywood or composite lumber attached horizontally along each side of a window frame or doorframe. Wooden shutters usually come in pairs consisting of vertical slats and horizontal strips that fit together like puzzle pieces or blocks. When assembled correctly, the shutters block light without obstructing views outwardly. Some types, called Venetian Blinds for example, combine both slatted and cellular shades and offer additional privacy options in addition to blocking sunlight.
Vinyl California Shutters are designed specifically to be attached to exterior building surfaces rather than existing buildings. They tend to be lightweight and can easily withstand winds of 80 mph or greater while still maintaining structural integrity. Most models feature clear vinyl sheets that allow natural light into homes through large panes of glass.
