What we learned this year about mounting weatherstrips in motorized California shutters on Mt. Royal homes was:
1. Keep this part mounted high above ground level because it will be exposed most often during rainy, windy conditions. Make sure rain water does not get inside the housing. We recommend hanging these metal strips 3 feet higher than outside walls, ceiling, and roof line of home.
2. Consider making use of rubber gaskets instead of adhesive foam seals for better seal quality. If possible install them above window opening in order to prevent dirt/dust particles entering inside of house.
3. Use “U shaped brackets with screws only”. These types of bracket provide best stability & sealing qualities but they are less expensive. Brackets without screw holes must be secured using glue. However you should note gluing them permanently would cause problems down the road since some materials are porous which allow moisture to enter through those joints. We suggest using screws only unless you like having leaking doors and windows every few years. For future maintenance ease, consider using stainless steel hardware. 4. What exactly do California shutters mean to me anyway? Is this a term I hear about once every 3 years, or does this mean something different each time?
I thought the same thing until I actually took some time to learn just what they’re really about; why you should get them installed, what makes them unique, and what the benefits are (and are NOT) for homeowners like us who live and breathe ‘green design”.
Here are my thoughts on these things! Hopefully it helps someone else out along the road.

So first, what exactly is a California shutter? And what is it used for? Well, I guess technically speaking, it’s simply called window covering/covering products. They typically feature multiple layers to maximize insulation properties that allow you to stay warmer during winter months than without them, but still keep cool air flowing during summer seasons.
