WHAT ARE California Shutters?
If you live in an area like Southern California, Northern Orange County & South Bay areas, you probably already love living near beautiful beaches & lakes, amazing mountain views & hiking trails, as well as great restaurants, shopping districts, entertainment venues. If you’re interested in adding some beauty, style and functionality to your home while protecting the view through your windows without breaking the bank, then installing quality California shutters could be just the answer.
WHAT IS A CALIFORNIA SHUTTER?
California (or Wood) shutters are window coverings made up of slats of wood which go across each side of your glass window(s). They come in many styles, designs, sizes, colors, fabrics and materials. Some of these products are manufactured at the mill, cut by hand, shipped via truck to local installers who hang them in house. These types of installations usually cost less than $5 per slider. Others are manufactured and delivered to wholesale distributors who sell them to retailers/installers who offer DIY projects in every state, including yours. Wholesale prices start around $30 per slider. Most homeowners will pay anywhere from $50-$100+ depending upon the type of material used, design, size, color, fabric/upholstery options.
WHY DOES IT MATTER WHICH TYPE OF WINDOW COVERING I INSTALL IN MY HOME?
While they serve similar functions, different types of California style shutters provide different benefits. For example wood shutters are generally sturdier and heavier than vinyl, but tend to block light better than most other types while being easier to clean since dirt stays trapped inside the wooden pieces rather than falling down onto the floor below. Metal shutters typically offer more privacy because they are solid panels. But they often lack durability unless they include stainless steel hardware, making them expensive. Vinyl shutters can easily peel, warp or crack and should only be installed during periods with little humidity (not rainy season), otherwise moisture and heat damage will occur quickly. And finally custom/customized shades are available in almost any imaginable shape, pattern, texture or color which makes them ideal additions for people seeking unique and distinctive looks.
